If generally the characteristics of the work environment, for example, in relation to its healthiness, microclimate or the lighting of various spaces, are important in assessing health risks to workers, these risk factors become even more relevant in particular environments such as tunnels, caverns or shafts.”

So highlights in an in-depth report “EdilTecnico,” the daily newspaper of industry professionals. Goboservice, a point of reference for more than two years in light projection solutions for safety signage, has taken up the ambitious challenge of bringing its Signum series projectors inside one of the tunnels under construction on the Italian road network: an environment that is inherently hostile, where dust and reduced visibility put traditional signaling systems to the test.

And he did so on the occasion of an important passage: The breaking down of the last diaphragm of the Casacastalda tunnel on SS318 Perugia-Ancona. This is a 3-kilometer-long route, about 80 percent of which runs indoors. With the lowering of the remaining rock wall, which took place in the presence of Umbria Region President Stefania Proietti and Valfabbrica Mayor Enrico Bacoccoli, a strategic point in the timetable was reached, which calls for the entire work to be opened to traffic by March 2026.

With the mediation of the Kiwitron company, Goboservice set up a lighted safety signaling model to protect Anas workers engaged in the construction site. Using four Signums and a Goline, three prescriptive signs, a red line and a gobo customized with the logos of the companies involved were projected, adapting the projections to the progress of the construction site.

The idea came from Daniele Dolciami, a safety professional, concerned about the difficulty repeatedly encountered in similar settings of seeing and having people see the appropriate safety signs. If in factories or workshops the problem is already there, in a particular environment such as a construction site carved into the bowels of a mountain it becomes a…diaphragm to be torn down. Why not do it with a beam of light? Perhaps like the one generated by the very powerful Signum, which has already proven its reliability in the most difficult environments and working conditions due to the presence of humidity or pollutants.

The intuition paid off happily. The projected signals were not obscured by dust or residual material and perfectly intercepted the attention of workers engaged in different activities. Finally, the versatility and robustness of the projectors made it possible to work serenely on the safety front without having to carry out emergency or system restoration work.

Satisfied with the performance of the projections were the various protagonists of the project, from Anas itself to the companies Donati Spa and Besix, passing through experts such as safety manager Marco Ambrogi and Valfabbrica technical director Andrea Giordano. Both contributed to the successful outcome of the experimentation by drawing useful information for future developments.
