The city of Bucharest again this year hosted the open-air visual art festival “Spotlight” during which a new series of multimedia experiences took place at the most significant sites in the urban area. In particular, just this year, “Spotlight Festival” – now in its eighth year – is a member of the largest international network of light festivals (The International Light Festivals Organization) that saw the Romanian city included among the largest cities in the world hosting spectacular new media events in public space.
The event, called “Geometry of the City,” which involved more than one hundred thousand people, saw the geometry of the city transformed through three days of light, color and sound shows: the most famous buildings in Bucharest came to life through multiple multimedia installations.

Goboservice enabled the organizers of Spotlight, for the first time, to be able to realize a large-scale goboprojection on the building where the InterContinental Athénéè Palace Bucharest Hotel is located, thanks to the use of nine Divum 50k projectors. Divums ensured the projection of images and lights from a distance of 40 meters, which turned out perfectly vivid and resplendent. The projections covered the entire elevation of the building illuminating an area measuring 60×13 meters; the mapping reproduced the pictorial work of one of Romania’s most important contemporary artists:
“One Song” (oil on canvas, 2009) by Roman Tolici. The work is part of the “Action” series, one of the most spectacular series created by Tolici, the result of a challenge the artist set himself: to approach painting in a cinematic way. The series explores the static image as a sequence of an action, following its instability and softness in search of the action itself and its consequences.

Images of “One Song” are populated by characters of all ages gathered around the pavilion, where one song is sung by two voices. Music thus becomes the protagonist of this work, celebrating beauty on multiple planes, visually and acoustically, inviting the audience into an almost dreamlike space set in the middle of the city. A space of harmony, like a musical pause in the noisy narrative of the metropolis.

This year’s Spotlight program includes works created by famous contemporary art names from Romania along with other Romanian artists, illustrators, and street art sculptors who, together with new media pioneers from France, Hungary, and Austria, have transformed Bucharest’s iconic locations.
The fascination of luminous geometries has shaped the city reality by elevating it and transforming it into new dimensions.
An experience that met the expectations of citizens by marking, in a satisfying and significant way, the technical, architectural and creative growth path of Goboservice.
